As is tradition at the RNZYS, Cook has made his way through the ranks from Chairman of the House, Rear Commodore, and Vice Commodore, after first joining the General Committee in 2011.
Cook has a vast amount of experience in the Marine Industry that includes twenty seven years as the Managing Director of Yachting Developments, seven years as President of the NZ Marine Industry, four years as Chairman of Marine Industry Training and four years on the board of ICOMIA.
As well as being on the General Committee since 2011, Cook has chaired the RNZYS Membership and House Committees, is the current chair of the RNZYS Sailing Committee, and has been a member of the RNZYS for over 30 years.
Cook has extensive local and offshore sailing experience is a mainstay in the classic yachting division and regattas where he races his famous classic yacht Ranger.
Particular areas of interest for his two years at the Commodore helm include Sailing, Race Management, Finance, and Major Projects and Assets.
“I am very much looking forward to my two years as Commodore of this great club. I hope to continue to be involved in and on strategies to implement the long term sustainability of the RNZYS,” commented Cook.
Other things Cook is keen to get stuck into whilst he is Commodore involve; “Refining and managing our Membership growth, creating better balances in our membership deliverables between sailing and non-sailing Members, further position ourselves as the leading yacht club and support others to benefit the sport of yachting in NZ, and to help facilitate and engage in international events to maintain our leading profile.”
Cook will be supported by Vice Commodore Aaron Young and Rear Commodore Andrew Aitken as well as the General Committee which includes; Peter Boardman, Jonty Cullinane, Sheryl Lanigan, Mike Leyland, Mike Malcolm, Garry Scarborough, Ben Sceats, Gillian Williams, Richard Wingfield and Sanchia Yonge.
The RNZYS would also like to thank Past Commodore Steve Mair for his fantastic efforts over the last two years, highlighted brilliantly by his involvement at the America’s Cup in Bermuda.
